Unvention
Description
It is the turn of the 19th century, and the world is surging forward into the Second Industrial Revolution. Mechanization, electrification, and bold innovation are reshaping society at an unprecedented pace. Nations rally their greatest minds to craft inventions that will define the future.
To celebrate this new age of discovery, the most prestigious International Invention Exhibition has been established—an extraordinary event where visionaries from around the world gather to showcase their ingenuity. Here, only the most daring ideas will earn their place in history.
You have been invited to compete, and the prize is a future of your own design.
Unvention is a competitive roll-and-write game where players take part in a prestigious weekend-long invention competition. Over the course of three days—Friday through Sunday—players journal their designs, gather parts, and construct mechanisms to bring their most ambitious inventions to life.
Each player has their own competition sheet to track progress—no crafting required. All you need is a printed sheet (A4 or Letter) per player and five standard six-sided dice (5D6).
At the end of each day, players present their inventions to the judges. The earlier an invention is unveiled, the more impressive it is—but timing is everything. Will your designs capture the spotlight?
At its core, Unvention is a polyomino puzzle game, where players build the polyomino shapes themselves. There are three core game systems, all heavily interlocked towards a single goal of creating elaborate inventions:
1. Journals: Mini sudoku puzzles where players try to gather wrenches; the resource required to build mechanisms.
2. Workshops: Players gather parts here, and use wrenches to connect them together and build polyomino-shaped mechanisms.
3. Inventions: The polyomino shapes of mechanisms are used in invention patterns, giving players full control to puzzle them in for most victory points, with each invention’s unique scoring criteria.
