Pantery w akcji (Kaniów 1943)
Description
Pantery w akcji (Kaniów 1943) (Panthers in action - Kanev 1943) presents the situation in late 1943.
After the fall at Kursk, the German army was withdrawing to the West. The major obstacle for the Red Army was the Dniepr river, especially since south of Kiev only one bridge was left - the railway one near Kanev.
Expecting an attack of Kiev, the German forces were unprepared for a Soviet attack aimed at siezing the bridge. Combined Armoured Corps and airborne units soon threatened to have the German forces cut off from the Western bank of the river. The situation was to be rescued by reinforcements of 19th and 7th Panzer Divisions but they come to late - the Dniepr was taken by Red Army.
The game uses rules of the B35 (Battles of World War II 1943-1945) system designed for dealing with medium battles of World War II. Counters represent battalions (Germans) or regiments (Russians), one hex represents 1500m, one turn represents 12 hours.
