Description

This is a small wargame of Operation Pointblank, included in "This Sim-Game is Awsome! 2017", an annual zine of wargame review.

Operation Pointblank is the US 8th Air Force's strategic bombing campaign of Germany between February and December of 1944.

One player is cast in the role of the US 8th Air Force planners, allocating bombers and their fighter escorts to key targets and also fighters on fighter sweeps. The other player is in charge of the German defenses (fighters and AAA). Each turn players commit their forces to the different map sectors secretly and then air battles are fought first between fighter sweeps and defending fighters, then between fighter escorts and remaining defending fighters and finally the latter against bombers.

Victory is measured in how many months the war in Europe is shortened or lengthened compared to May 1945. Victory Points are accrued by the US player for destroying targets and achieving air superiority in the most sectors, while the German have to hinder those efforts before the game ends.
