Description

Introduction: Storm Clouds is a simple game with asymmetric piece movement and a slightly odd opening setup evocative of the game Dodgem. However unlike Dodgem, the goal is to wipe out your opponent. This is easier said than done because you can only capture backwards and to the side. A game of Storm Clouds cannot end in a draw. Corey L. Clark designed Storm Clouds in September of 2024.

Setup: Take a standard 8x8 checkerboard, arrange the 12 checkers in 2 rows of 6 starting in the northwest corner for black and the southeast corner for white.

Gameplay: The gameplay of Storm Clouds is simple. Black has a set of non-capturing chess king moves to the north, northeast, east and south east. Black also has a set of capturing moves like a chess queen in the remaining 4 directions. White has a set of non-capturing chess king moves to the east northeast north and northwest. White also has a set of capturing moves like a chess queen in the remaining 4 directions.

Objective: The objective of Storm Clouds is to eliminate all enemy pieces.

Forced passing: if on your turn you have no legal move, you may pass your turn, passing is otherwise strictly prohibited.
