Barbershop
Description
Barbershop (or Strohmann Jass) is a two player game based on the traditional game Coiffeur Jass.
From the rules:
Introduction
This is the third game in an ongoing exploration of Strawman Variations--developing two player versions of trick-taking games by adding strawmen (one or more piles of cards, usually with the top card exposed, that form part of a player’s hand).
Object
Seventeen tricks are played each hand; certain cards are worth certain points; the object is to capture the most points. There is a small bonus for winning the last trick.
The Cards
A pack of 36 Swiss-suited cards is used consisting of A K O U B 9 8 7 6 in four suits (acorns, bells, flowers, and shields). If you only have a pack with French suits, you can use A K Q J 10 9 8 7 6 in clubs, diamonds, hearts, and spades.
The rank of the cards (and their point value) within each suit is, from highest to lowest:
Ace(11), King(4), Ober(3), Under(2), Banner(10), 9(0), 8(0), 7(0), 6(0).
However, when there is a trump suit, the rank (and point value) in that suit becomes:
Under(20), 9(14), Ace(11), King(4), Ober(3), Banner(10), 8(0), 7(0), 6(0).
With a bonus of 5 points for winning the last trick, there is a total of 157 points to capture each round.
